Gaelic Games - Hurling & Football

From its establishment in 1968, St. David's B.N.S. has taken on active part in Gaelic Games. In those early years, the skills required to participate were not part of most pupils' normal lives and much hard work was required to ensure a modicum of success. However, this did not deter pupil or teacher, and in a short time, the foundation for teams was laid and later that year, success beckoned.

It was a tremendous achievement to reach the final of the Junior Football (Clonmore Cup) and, though beaten by Ballygall, the experience of playing in Croke Park set the scene for future success. The following year both senior and junior teams reached their repective finals with the junior team taking the 1970 Clonmore Cup back to Artane as champions. The efforts of Bro. Christy Kerins in those early years in putting teams together showed a dedication way beyond the call of duty and past pupils involved with those teams remember with pride those glory days.

Down the years, while we have participated in both hurling and football competitions, success has always eluded us. Though we were beaten in 1974 in a senior football divisional final and in 1982 in a hurling divisional final, we have never succeeded in capturing the glories of earlier times.

Presently, Mr. Moore and Mr. Elliffe are training teams participating in the Cumann na mBunscol championships.
